Canada Lifts Restrictions On Japanese Food Imports

(Manufacturing.Net)

Canada has lifted all restrictions on food imports from Japan, which were imposed amid fears of radioactive contamination due to the crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, saying all products tested were far below radiation limits, the Japanese government said Tuesday.

Canada became the first country to lift all restrictions, while 40 other countries and areas continue to restrict food imports from Japan following the crisis at the plant triggered by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in northeastern Japan, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Monday that following an assessment it “no longer sees the need for routine testing imported food products,” effective the same day, adding Canada’s health authorities will conduct regular monitoring of food sold in the country, including Japanese imports. Notification of Inspection for U.S. Meat Shipments

(CFIA)

ATTN: All Importers / Brokers / Carriers / Registered Meat Inspection Establishments Operators and Broker Associations

Regarding the notification of the inspection status of meat shipments from the USA and the distribution of MCAP Import Inspection Reports, we would like to advise you that effective May 16, 2011, shipments selected for inspection can be identified by running a query using the new CFIA Automated Shipment Inspection Status Search Tool (ASISST). Queries can be made on either the complete 14 digit transaction number or the complete Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) number.

Please refer to this link for more information and to view the official notification:

FOR REPLACEMENT OMICs:
When a search is made in ASISST based on an OMIC certificate that has been replaced, ASISST will return a result which will display the OMIC number and the associated information relevant to only the replacement certificate. In the event your search returns an OMIC number other than the one searched, please identify whether or not the certificate has been replaced. In the case of a replacement, verify the OMIC number displayed in ASISST corresponds with the replacement certificate. If the original OMIC has not been replaced or the result does not match the replacement certificate’s number, please contact CFIA as indicated in the official notification on our website.
